Block Magic evaluation during the TRANSIt summer school 2013
A workshop on Block Magic was organised within the international summer school TRANSIT ( Comenius – Grundtvig Reference Number : GR-2013-233-001) that focused on transversal key competences for lifelong learning.
The summer school took place in Crete (Greece) from June 30 to July 5, 2013. It was attended by 17 in-service teachers from six EU countries (Austria, Greece, Ireland, Netherlands, Romania and Spain). They participated in the Block Magic hands-on sessions as a best example of technology enhanced manipulatives that promote competences at infant and primary level.
Teachers tried the Block Magic Teacher Kit and reflected on the usefulness and the effectiveness of such technology. The Block Magic session included a presentation of the Block Magic projec, the concepts and methodological approach, presentation of the first evaluation results, focusing on Spanish implementation, a hands-on time with the participating teachers, evaluation and discussion.
The overall feedback was positive, especially from primary school teachers, whose interest was very much captured by the system. Several teachers requested information of the potential commercialization of the final Block Magic kit and the possibility to test and use the system in their classrooms during the next school year (2013-2014). Some improvements suggestions were received, as listed below.
Interest was shown also by secondary school teachers. During the discussion, a teacher commented that she sees the system also applicable for bigger children, i.e. suggests not limiting the target age of the children up to 7, but to consider exercises suitable for 7+ y.o.
